About this Map
This carefully drawn, artful map of Okauchee Lake captures an exceptionally intricate lake whose broad central basin branches into numerous bays, points, islands, channels, and narrow extensions. Detailed bathymetric contours reveal a complex underwater landscape with steep breaks, submerged points, broad shelves, and deep basins reaching approximately 90 feet. The shoreline itself is remarkably varied and heavily developed, with individual buildings, winding lake roads, wetlands, wooded areas, and numerous smaller waters providing an unusually rich level of geographic detail around this approximately 1,210-acre Waukesha County lake.
Several distinctive features help define Okauchee Lake, including McDowell Island in the northwestern basin and Brown Bay extending southward from the main lake. Boat ramps and other access points are shown around the shoreline, while dense residential development illustrates the lake's long-established recreational character. Immediately northeast, a narrow waterway connects toward Moose Lake, while Garvin Lake lies just east of Okauchee and Gray Lake appears farther south near Nashotah Park.
The broader map captures an extraordinary concentration of neighboring lakes and communities. Upper Nashotah Lake, Lower Nashotah Lake, Forest Lake, Tierney Lake, and Oconomowoc Lake are all visible around the margins of the map, together with numerous smaller ponds and wetland corridors. Nashotah Park occupies a substantial wooded landscape southeast of Okauchee Lake, providing a striking natural counterpoint to the densely settled shoreline. Together, the intricate bathymetry, islands, channels, surrounding lakes, parks, neighborhoods, and waterways make this map an especially detailed portrait of Okauchee Lake within the remarkably lake-rich landscape of western Waukesha County.
