About this Map
This carefully drawn, artful map of Muskellunge Lake captures the lake’s wonderfully irregular shoreline and varied underwater terrain. Detailed bathymetric contours reveal several distinct basins, underwater humps, shallow shelves, and pockets of deeper water reaching roughly 25 feet. The narrow western arm and broad central and northern portions give the lake a complex shape, while mapped bottom features add further detail to the character of the lake.
The surrounding landscape is heavily wooded and lightly developed, with homes concentrated along portions of the western and eastern shores. A public boat ramp is shown on the lake’s western arm, while Muskellunge Creek extends northward from the lake through an extensive wetland landscape. Long Lake appears just southwest of Muskellunge Lake, and the numerous smaller unnamed lakes, wetlands, and forest roads surrounding the shoreline help place the lake within the broader Northwoods lake country of Oneida County.
