Lake Gordon & Laura

This carefully drawn, artful map brings together Lake Gordon and Lake Laura, two neighboring Northwoods lakes with distinctly different shapes and underwater landscapes. Lake Gordon, at approximately 51 acres, has an irregular shoreline and a particularly dramatic eastern basin, where tightly spaced bathymetric contours descend to approximately 30 feet. Larger Lake Laura, at approximately 106 acres, has a broad, elongated form punctuated by small bays and projecting points, with a more gently contoured lake bottom reaching approximately 22 feet. Together, the two lakes provide an appealing contrast in size, shape, and bathymetry.

The surrounding landscape is especially notable for its undeveloped, heavily forested character. Both lakes lie within the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, with the Laura and Gordon Lake Recreation Area occupying the wooded landscape between them. Boat ramps are shown on both lakes, while the Lake Laura Campground lies along Laura Lake’s southern shore. Forest roads and trails provide access while development remains remarkably sparse.

The map also highlights the recreational landscape surrounding the lakes. The Laura Lake Nature Trail follows much of Lake Laura’s northern and eastern shoreline, while the Kimball Creek Trail extends through the forest southwest of Lake Gordon. Wetlands, small ponds, streams, and extensive forest fill nearly the entire surrounding map, giving Lakes Gordon and Laura a wonderfully secluded setting and making this map as much a portrait of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest landscape as of the two lakes themselves.
