About this Map
This carefully drawn, artful map centers on Gilas Lake, whose irregular shoreline surrounds a surprisingly dramatic underwater landscape. Detailed bathymetric contours reveal steep drop-offs and a deep central basin reaching more than 80 feet, along with shallower shelves, points, bays, and an island near the southwestern portion of the lake. The surrounding forests, wetlands, roads, buildings, and scattered shoreline development provide geographic context while preserving the quiet, rural character of this Marinette County lake.
The map also includes nearby Mattrich Lake, a much smaller 13-acre waterbody southeast of Gilas Lake, surrounded by wetlands and connected waterways.
