About this Map
This map features Crystal Lake, a beautiful 129-acre lake tucked into the forested Kettle Moraine hills of northwestern Sheboygan County near Elkhart Lake. Despite its relatively small size, Crystal Lake has an unusually interesting shoreline and underwater landscape, with islands, points, and two distinct basins.
The eastern basin drops dramatically to a maximum depth of approximately 61 feet, while the western portion of the lake is broader and considerably shallower. Detailed bathymetric contours reveal these changing depths and steep drop-offs, while surrounding roads, homes, shoreline features, and the public boat landing provide additional geographic context.
I’ve biked County Road J along the east side of Crystal Lake, and the views from there are especially impressive. From that vantage point, the lake’s islands and wooded Kettle Moraine setting really stand out. It’s one of those places where seeing the landscape in person adds another dimension to what you see on the map.
Crystal Lake supports a varied fishery that includes Northern Pike, Walleye, Largemouth Bass, Cisco, Bluegill, Black Crappie, and Yellow Perch. A public boat landing is located near the southwestern part of the lake, accessible from County Road C and Birch Tree Road.
Between its surprising depth, islands, two contrasting basins, and its setting among the wooded hills of the Kettle Moraine, Crystal Lake packs a remarkable amount of geographic character into 129 acres.
